Founded 1893

Genoa Cricket and Football Club — founded in 1893 by English sailors living in the Ligurian port city — are the oldest football club in Italy and one of the oldest in continental Europe. The club's nine Serie A championships, all won in the early decades of Italian football, place them among the historical giants of the Italian game. The Stadio Luigi Ferraris, shared with local rivals Sampdoria, stands as one of Italian football's most iconic grounds — compact, atmospheric and thunderously loud.

Alberto Gilardino, a former Italian international striker who scored 11 goals at the 2006 World Cup winner and spent much of his playing career at clubs including AC Milan, Fiorentina and Genoa himself, took over as manager and immediately impressed. His understanding of what the club represents to the city, his tactical clarity and his ability to inspire players have made Genoa competitive once again at the top level. The Rossoblu faithful — passionate, historically aware and fiercely proud — demand results that honour the club's extraordinary heritage.

In 2025-26, Genoa are competing in Serie A with the aim of consolidating their top-flight status and building toward a future that can challenge for European football. The port city's football club is alive, passionate and determined to write new chapters in a story that stretches back over 130 years.
