Genoa CFC
The oldest club in Serie A. Genoa Cricket and Football Club was founded in 1893 by English expatriates in Italy's oldest port city — over 130 years of history, nine Italian league titles and a passionate tifosi among the most loyal in the country.
Genoa Cricket and Football Club holds a distinction no other Italian club can claim: they are the oldest football club in Serie A, founded in 1893 by English expatriates working in Genova's bustling port. The city itself is one of Italy's great historic centres — birthplace of Christopher Columbus, home to the world's first operational lighthouse, and a maritime power whose influence shaped the Mediterranean for centuries. Genoa CFC are as much a part of that city's story as anything else.
The club's nine Italian league titles — all won in the pre-war era between 1898 and 1924 — speak to a golden period when Genoa dominated Italian football. Since then, the club has experienced the full range of football's fortunes: relegations, promotions, near-misses and comebacks. After years bouncing between Serie A and Serie B, Genoa returned to the top flight and have gradually re-established themselves as a permanent presence. Their return in recent years under various coaches has been marked by the passionate support of the Gradinata Nord, one of Italian football's most famous terraces.
The Stadio Luigi Ferraris — shared with crosstown rivals Sampdoria and known to locals simply as the Marassi — is one of Serie A's most distinctive grounds. Its four towers and compact design create an atmosphere that feels unlike any other stadium in Italy. Genoa at home is an experience, and in 2025-26 the Rossoblu are determined to use that home advantage as a foundation for Serie A survival and eventually a push up the table.
The Genoa Story
Italy's Oldest Club
Founded in 1893 by English workers in Genova, Genoa predate the Italian Football Federation itself. They are the original Italian football club — nine league titles in the early decades of the game, and an unbroken connection to the sport's roots in the country.
Marassi — The Fortress
The Stadio Luigi Ferraris (Marassi) is Serie A's most characterful ground. Four corner towers, steep stands, tight corners — the Gradinata Nord's noise fills every inch of the ground. Visiting teams frequently find it one of the most hostile environments in Italian football.
The Derby della Lanterna
The Derby della Lanterna against Sampdoria is one of Italian football's most passionate local derbies. Named after Genova's famous lighthouse, the Lanterna derby splits the city in two and produces atmospheres that few games anywhere in the world can match.
