From Old Trafford to San Paolo
Scott McTominay spent his entire senior career to 2024 at Manchester United, coming through the academy, making over 250 appearances, and becoming a fan favourite through sheer determination. But Serie A called in summer 2024, and Napoli’s €30m investment in the Scotland captain proved to be an inspired piece of business. Within months of arriving in Naples, McTominay had scored crucial goals and established himself as the heartbeat of Antonio Conte’s midfield.
Scotland’s Most Important Player
McTominay is not merely Scotland’s best player — he is the nation’s most important footballer in a generation. His goals in EURO 2024 qualifying breathed life into Steve Clarke’s side at crucial moments. As captain, he leads by example: work rate, leadership, goals from midfield. Playing regularly in Serie A at a high level has only sharpened his performances for the national team, and Scotland hopes he can inspire them to future tournament qualification.
