World Cup 2026 Ticket Guide

Everything you need to know to secure tickets for the biggest sporting event in North America — how to buy, what it costs, and which stadiums to aim for.

Important: Official FIFA Ticket Portal

All official World Cup 2026 tickets are sold exclusively through FIFA's official website. Beware of third-party resale sites charging inflated prices outside FIFA's authorised secondary platform. Always verify the seller is FIFA-approved before purchasing.

How to Register and Apply for Tickets

FIFA uses a ballot system for high-demand matches. The process typically follows these stages:

  1. Create a FIFA account — register at the official FIFA ticketing portal. You will need a valid government ID and a payment method. One account per person; duplicate accounts are banned.
  2. Priority windows — FIFA opens priority access for certain groups including national football association members, past World Cup ticket holders, and FIFA+ subscribers. Check your national federation's website for exclusive access codes.
  3. Ballot applications — for high-demand matches (quarter-finals, semis, the final), FIFA runs a ballot. Apply during the application window, then wait for the result. Over-subscribed matches will be selected randomly — there is no guarantee of success.
  4. First-come-first-served sales — group stage matches for less popular fixtures go on general sale. Act quickly as demand for matches involving USA, Mexico and host-nation favourites is enormous.
  5. Official resale — FIFA operates an official resale platform where verified ticket holders can list unwanted tickets at face value or with a limited premium. This is the only safe secondary market.

Resale Policy and Anti-Touting Rules

FIFA has strict anti-touting policies. Tickets cannot be resold above face value outside the official platform. Violations can result in ticket cancellation and being banned from future FIFA events. FIFA uses digital, ID-linked tickets in 2026 — each ticket is tied to the purchaser's FIFA account ID.

The official FIFA Ticket Resale Marketplace allows holders to list tickets at face value or up to a capped premium (expected to be around 10-20% above face value for non-final matches). This is the safest and only recommended way to buy secondary market tickets.

Warning signs of ticket scams: upfront payment via bank transfer, tickets offered well below face value, sellers who cannot provide a FIFA account verification, or websites that are not the official FIFA ticketing portal or its listed partners.

Hospitality Packages and Fan Zones

FIFA Official Hospitality packages offer premium match-day experiences including seat upgrades, stadium dining, pre-match entertainment and exclusive merchandise. These are significantly more expensive than standard tickets — hospitality packages for the final can exceed $10,000 per person — but guarantee a ticket even for fully balloted matches.

Every host city will operate FIFA Fan Zones — free public areas with giant screens, food, drinks and entertainment. Fan Zones are the best option for fans who cannot secure match tickets but still want to experience the World Cup atmosphere. Cities like New York, LA and Miami will host enormous fan zones capable of accommodating tens of thousands of people.

Travel and Accommodation Tips

Book accommodation immediately once ticket ballots open. Host city hotels fill up years in advance for World Cup events. Consider staying in neighbouring cities and commuting — for example, New York's metropolitan area offers vast accommodation options compared to the stadium area in East Rutherford, NJ.

Internal North American flights between host cities can be expensive during tournament windows — if you plan to attend matches in multiple cities, book flights early or consider Amtrak services between Eastern seaboard cities (NY, Philadelphia, Boston). Cross-border travel between USA, Canada and Mexico requires standard passport checks — ensure documents are valid.

The Mexican venues (Azteca, Guadalajara, Monterrey) will be hot during June-July. Altitude at Azteca (2,240 metres above sea level) affects players and fans — allow a day to acclimatise, stay hydrated, and be aware of Mexico City's air quality.
