Source: Football Social Daily — Enzo Maresca is Man City's Pep Guardiola replacement
Duration: 28 min
Manager changes
There is a tweet from David Ornstein. Exclusive. Pep Guardiola has informed Manchester City he intends to step down at the end of the season. Unfortunately, it's fake because there's a geezer in Australia who's mocked up a fake Ornstein tweet.
It's a rumour that's been doing the rounds for a little while now, but is Enzo Maresca set to be the successor to Pep Guardiola as the manager of Manchester City?
I think Maresca's a tap-in for the job, to be honest. I think he's the best man for it if Guardiola did decide to go this summer.
Maresca hasn't come out and said I want to be the Manchester City manager. He's basically just been asked a question about whether he would fancy it after Pep leaves and he said yeah well why wouldn't you.
If Pep decides he wants to stay another couple of years, Maresca can't just sit on the shelf for two years waiting to get the City job. He needs to be in work.
There's evidence on both sides for and against whether succession plans generally work or not. Sometimes the best laid plans go to waste.
Premier League manager future
It doesn't feel like Pep is about to leave this summer. I think it feels like next summer at least. I don't see him upping sticks and moving in seven or eight weeks' time.
Transfer/Manager rumors
When you pair what he's saying with the rumours that came around around his time of exit [from Chelsea], specifically the one where there was a clause in his contract that he's allowed to talk to Manchester City, it's not a stretch to say 2 plus 2 equals 4 here.
Tactical analysis
If they want that [playing style] to continue post-Guardiola, Maresca is clearly a good fit because he plays in a similar way and he's spoken about his admiration for Manchester City and the influence it had on him.
