#178 - Discussing the new U.S. jerseys with U.S. Soccer's Maribeth Towers
U.S. National Team jersey design
When they presented the jerseys to the players, they actually applauded the kits. A couple of them who had been on every meeting, like Weston McKennie, went up to the designers afterwards and said, 'Thank you, these are great, we love these.' The Nike people said, 'That's a first, we've never had the kits be applauded.'
One of the players said, 'You do know that the fans are going to reference Waldo on this one?' and they were like, 'Yeah, we know, it's fine.'
We invited the Women's National Team to the design process for this kit, and they all passed and said, 'This is their [the men's] year.' And interestingly, the flip side happened for '27 when we did the intake for the '27 kits; we invited all the men's players, and they also said, 'We'll let the women do it.'
The dark kit had a bit of a redo from the time that they saw the CAD art. The designers ended up having to go back and really kind of redo it, not completely, but pretty significantly.
The players were commenting that they love it when they know where our fans are in the stands. They were saying that's going to accomplish that—if we get a bunch of the fans wearing that jersey, there's going to be no doubt where our fans are.
2031 Women's World Cup bid
We've got the bid in and it's looking good for 2031, so these next handful of years are just going to be wonderfully insane for the sport.
2027 Women's World Cup
The 2027 kits are already well underway. The women's players are being deeply involved, and that storytelling is around their history as they head into Brazil.
U.S. Men's National Team schedule
The U.S. Men's National Team will debut them when they take on Belgium on the 28th and Portugal on the 31st, with both of those matches taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
