Premier League Player of the Year 2025-26

PL Player of the Year 2025-26

The most prestigious individual award in English football. Salah's legendary final season, Saka's relentless consistency, Haaland's goal machine inevitability and Palmer's midfield artistry — four players, one trophy, an entire season of brilliance distilled into a single vote.

The Four Contenders

MO

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool — Forward

Salah's final season at Anfield is the story of the campaign. Already the club's all-time top scorer, the Egyptian King may be signing off with an unprecedented season stat line. Goals, assists, big-game performances — Salah is writing a fairytale ending that could deliver the ultimate individual honour.

Bukayo Saka

Arsenal — Winger

The Arsenal captain has been the model of consistency since his breakthrough. Never flashy, always effective — Saka's direct dribbling, goal involvements and leadership have made him the Premier League's most complete wide player. If Arsenal win the title, Saka wins everything.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City — Striker

The most prolific striker of his generation. When Haaland is fit, he scores goals at a historic rate. A Player of the Year campaign often requires dominating numbers — and Haaland's can be transcendent. The only question is whether a disappointing City season dilutes his individual case.

Cole Palmer

Chelsea — Attacking Midfielder

The revelation of the past two seasons. Palmer arrived at Chelsea as a £40m gamble and immediately became their best player, then arguably the league's most creative force. Goals from midfield, penalties with ice-cold nerve, defence-splitting passes — Palmer has the complete package.

The PFA and FWA Awards Explained

PFA Players' Player of the Year

Voted for by professional footballers themselves — making it arguably the most credible honour. Players vote for the best player in the division they play in. Winning the PFA award means your peers rate you above everyone else, which carries immense weight.

FWA Footballer of the Year

The Football Writers' Association has been awarding its Player of the Year since 1948 — making it the oldest individual football award in England. Football journalists cast ballots for the player who has "contributed most to the game" throughout the season.

PL Player of the Month

Throughout the season, monthly awards track form and momentum. Multiple Player of the Month wins often signal a Player of the Year campaign building. Salah and Saka have historically dominated the monthly awards in big seasons.

Previous Winners

Recent PFA winners include Kevin De Bruyne, Salah (multiple times), Virgil van Dijk and Bernardo Silva. The FWA has honoured players like Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane. Cole Palmer's rapid rise has him firmly in contention for both awards in 2025-26.

Could Salah Win It a Third Time?

Mohamed Salah won the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 2017-18, arguably the greatest individual Premier League season in history (44 goals in all competitions). If his 2025-26 campaign — potentially his farewell — reaches those heights, a third PFA award would cement his status as the greatest Premier League player of all time.
